358 Results for year: 2013

Dave’s Free Play, Tuesday 12/31/13

Here it is, the curtain closer for 2013. I have just one resolution for 2014, and that's to make it my best year to date. But before worrying about that, there's one more day remaining in 2013, and the goal is to close out the year with a big slate of winners. The free plays continue to produce the right results, with San Diego covering wire to wire at ... More

The NFL sure doesn't need my advice, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want it at any rate. No matter, I'll offer some anyway. Get some full time officials. Expanded replay has proven something many of us already knew. That is, these guys miss a load of calls. That old myth about the refs being right 99% of the time, or whatever the percentage was supposed ... More

This ought to be fun. I'm not sure how many different scenarios are on the table today as far as the NFL playoff picture is concerned. I believe I heard it's somewhere around 54. The number really doesn't matter. Suffice to say there's a load of possibilities and the complete picture will not be filled in until we get a result in the Sunday night game ... More

Another positive result on Friday as I split two bowl plays and collected a very easy college basketball winner. Seton Hall obliterated Lafayette on the hardwood in a game that was basically done right after the opening tip. As for the bowls, Syracuse was a right side that paid off and BYU was a wrong side that didn't. I'll never argue with 2-1, and the ... More

If you're ever looking for additional entertainment while viewing almost any sports event, make sure and follow the action on Twitter. Last night's Poinsettia Bowl between Utah State and Northern Illinois was a classic example of how quickly bettors make up their minds and then immediately arrive at a radically different conclusion as the game unfolds. ... If you're a football fan, get set to overdose on an absolute feast of action that begins tonight. There will be games played on each of the next 12 days, beginning with a pair of bowls tonight and when including the NFL, going all the way through the duel for the BCS marbles between Auburn and Florida State. In other words, it just can't get much better ... More

Dave’s Free Play, Christmas Day 2013

First off, a big thanks to all of you who visit this website on a regular basis. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read whatever I'm spouting about, and hopefully it's enjoyable on your end as well. Hopefully, this will be a wonderful holiday for everyone. Merry Christmas! Monday's action worked out very nicely with a sweep, so the very positive ... More

I've often pointed out that one of the worst wagering strategies is to play on teams that "need" to win when up against an opponent that seemingly has little on the line. There are flaws galore in going that route. On the one hand, the team needing the win is under more pressure than the supposedly relaxed adversary. That's not necessarily a plus. It's ... More

Coaching a football team at any level is something I will never be qualified to do. It's a very tough job to be sure, with loads of responsibility and the hours are horrible. So not only is it a job I'm not capable of doing, it's not one I would ever desire. But there is one facet of coaching that I don't think is particularly difficult, and yet it ... More

Four college bowls, 12 NBA games, another dozen NHL hookups, plus 64 boarded college basketball games. That's the Saturday slate, and therefore lots of number crunching, schedule analysis, and hunting for pertinent news items. Not a lot of time left for blogging, so everything is short and sweet today. My plays are going extremely well right now. 12-2, ... More

I wasn't involved in the Thursday night NBA nightcap between the Spurs and Warriors. It's pretty apparent that for most of those who were, the result was unsatisfactory. Golden State opened at -3.5, and got bet up all the way to -7.5 after it was revealed that Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili would all get the night off for San Antonio. Here's a ... More

Wednesday night could not have been much better from this vantage point. The NBA rampage continued with two more winners, and I went 4-1 on the college side. 6-1 obviously doesn't happen every night, but it's sure fun when it does. It won't happen tonight, as there's no chance I'm on that many games, but I like what I will be on and expect another black ink ... More
