And that takes care of that! The Boston Red Sox have officially shed the label of the ultimate close, but no cigar baseball franchise. 2004 was for all those Red Sox lifers that spent too many years experiencing massive frustration cheering for a team that found amazing ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. 2007 was fun, in that Boston was simply ... World Series Game 6, a huge NBA slate, a short but intriguing lineup in the NHL, plus a stand alone college football game. In other words, something for almost everyone tonight if you're a sports fan, and all kinds of choices for the bettor as well. Make sure the batteries in the remote control are fresh! My top choice will the baseball game as I'll be ... More

The Red Sox return to Fenway Park now having a chance to close out the Cardinals on Wednesday night. One cannot help but wonder if the Redbirds will finally give in and stop throwing strikes to David Ortiz. Boston is scratching and clawing for every run, and it seems pretty clear that without Big Papi's contributions, this series might well be finished ... More

Good bounce back from the not so hot Saturday with a 3-1 NFL, 1-0 NHL Sunday. Now another new season begins tomorrow night as the NBA gets things rolling. I've got a couple of win total opinions to share today. One Over, one Under. I'll start with the Over 28.5 on the Milwaukee Bucks. I don't see the Bucks as a playoff team, so it's not as though I'm ... More

Loads to cover today. I'll begin with the finish of the Red Sox-Cardinals game. I hate the way the game ended, which is to be expected considering my team was on the short end. But the umps got the call right. The rule book is pretty clear on this. The whole incident was started with what would have to qualify as an ill-advised throw to third base by Jarrod ... More

If you read this space even just occasionally, you already know I'm not real big on hype and gimmicks. That said, if one is going to sell selections, there's at least some marketing that has to be done in order for the business to be successful. That's true for every entity on the planet, and this one is no different in that regard. There is nothing that ... More

Not exactly my best effort on Thursday, at least from a results standpoint. The Lightning overtime win on the ice saved it from being a really bad day. Losing Cam Ward to an injury was very costly in the Carolina game, as his in-game replacement allowed back to back goals on back to back shots. Just one of those days that happen to us all from time to time. ... More

Small profit on the one Wednesday play, which was the Red Sox. The Cardinals could not have played worse. They didn't hit when it mattered, and the defense was comically bad at times. Add in an apparent injury to Carlos Beltran while he was stealing a grand slam from David Ortiz and it adds up to about as awful a night as could possibly be for the Redbirds. ... More

I guess this is called the calm before the storm. There's just the World Series opener between the Cardinals and Red Sox tonight, along with a couple of NHL skirmishes. I won't have anything big this evening, but I'll undoubtedly be wearing some kind of Red Sox shirt when I head out for dinner tonight. Gotta represent, right? This is a very tough World ... More

I had the Vikings on Monday night, so any criticism I make has to begin with my own analysis of the game, which basically could not have been more wrong. I thought Josh Freeman might give the Vikings the spark they needed to win the game. As it happens, Freeman was an epic disaster, and while he wasn't the only reason Minnesota lost, he was a huge liability ... More

Okay Sunday with a 3-2 finish in the NFL. Add in the huge college day on Saturday, and the tally for the week in football was 11-3. Needless to say, I'm pretty pleased with that line, and good weeks like this one are always great for the confidence, regardless of how long you've been at it. On the flip side, I still managed not to play a few games I ... More

First, the bad news. I went 1-3 on the ice Saturday evening. Blew two third period leads, lost a shootout, and was only able to cash a ticket on Nashville. Fortunately, that was a big dog pay, so it wasn't the worst 1-3 of all time. As for football, it could have only been better if Texas Tech hadn't decided to throw for a late TD rather than conservat... More
