Cokin’s Corner, Friday 5/4/18
As one who has been involved in sports on virtually an everyday basis for the better part of a half century, I’ll admit to not being much of a fan. I’ll certainly have rooting interests, but I’m generally simply pulling for the teams I’ve invested in that day. Beyond that, I don’t really care all that much who wins or loses and my enjoyment is more as an observer than anything else. That’s especially true when viewing an event where the outcome is of no consequence at all to me.
Tonight figures to be a little out of the ordinary. The Vegas Golden Knights are my city’s first big league professional franchise. Note I’m including professional in that description. UNLV hoops was this town’s first true franchise and the glory days will never be forgotten by those of us who were here when the Runnin’ Rebels really dominated this city.
But now it’s the Golden Knights and tonight they play the biggest game in the brief history of this incredibly successful expansion franchise. There’s no need to hype how big Game Five is as the Knights look to take back control of their series with the San Jose Sharks.
Long story short, I’m all in as a fan tonight, and that’a actually kind of a cool sensation for one who’s usually just a passive observer. Go Knights!
Tough luck split here on Thursday. 11-0 winner with the Braves, 6-5 loser with the Twins. Minnesota blew a 5-1 lead and got walked off on a White Sox homer with two out in the ninth. 1-1 and no harm done, but this looked like a sweet 2-0 till the Twins snatched defeat from the hawks of victory.
My Friday card will be unusually large. Four games already played and I might be adding one or two more if the price is right. Baseball profits for the season to date are quite good, and I’d sure like to to add to that bottom line tonight..

East winner with the Braves as the Thursday free play. I’ll go against the Mets once again today for another free play.
ROCKIES (Marquez) at METS (Wheeler)
Take: ROCKIES +115
The Mets have blown some tires since their great start to the season. Not a lot to like about this team right now. Colorado righty German Marquez has had some control issues in the early going, so he’s not exactly a sure thing right now. But my pitcher ratings give Marquez a good sized edge over Zack Wheeler of the Mets. Both these pitchers have been vulnerable in early innings so far this season, so there could be some fast fireworks, especially with the wind blowing dead out to center. So this could very well turn into a bullpen battle, and if that’s the case I’m seeing an advantage with the Rockies. I like the value in this game quite a bit as I actually make the Rockies the favorite on my numbers, so this is a relatively easy decision to make on the Rockies.
