Cokin’s Corner, Friday 6/7/19

  • June 6, 2019

It’s not an elimination game, but it’s pretty close. A loss at home on Friday evening and the Golden State Warriors will be on the brink of coughing up their crown to the surging Toronto Raptors.

There’s no question that the Warriors have a legitimate excuse for their issues in this series. The Kevin Durant injury has played a huge role, and he’s hardly the only guy on Golden State that is banged up. But that’s the way it rolls sometimes, and now it’s up to Golden State to find a way to get it together and play at a high level tonight.

The Warriors have been in trouble on a couple of occasions during their dynastic run. The ultimate backs against the wall comeback was against a Houston Rockets entry that had them down 3-1 but could not put them away. If this series was Warriors vs. Rockets, and Golden State found itself trailing 3-1, I’d still like their chances of coming back. That’s because the Warriors are mentally tougher than the Rockets, simple as that.

This is a different story. While I would not rule out a comeback from a 3-1 deficit against the Raptors, I don’t believe it would happen. This Raptors team is tough as nails from the neck up, unlike the Rockets teams we’ve seen over the past few seasons.

So I really feel this is a must win game for Golden State. And while I think there’s every chance the Raptors can win this series and the title, I am going to trust this phenomenal franchise to pull out the game on Friday evening. There’s your free play for Friday.
