Cokin’s Corner, Monday 5/6/19
There’s still ample buzz over what took place at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Maximum Security was taken down as the winner after the stewards upheld the objection that had been filed.
I’ll explain my stance in more detail on today’s The Las Vegas Sportsline, which airs 2-3PM Pacific on ESPN Las Vegas, and is also available online at LVSportsNetwork.com. I’l be joined by Chuck Esposito from Sunset Station/Station Casinos, as well as Marco D’Angelo, and I’ll be very curious to hear what they have to say.
Here’s the abridged version. At first glance, I didn’t see any grounds for a change in the order of finish. But as more angles became available, I don’t think there’s any question that the stewards made the correct decision. In fact, this was really close to being a train wreck that have could have been an absolute disaster for the sport.
If you’re still in the camp that feels the stewards got it wrong, watch again to see what happened. Note that I’m strictly impartial here as my horse was Game Winner, and nothing that took place impacted him in any way.
I’ll elaborate more on the radio show, so be sure to give it a listen if you’re interested.
The Sunday free play was a very bad read as Cody Anderson was terrible and the Indians got blown out. I did better with the Tigers and pushed a -1 play on the Brewers, so just 1-1-1 on Sunday. Here’s an opinion for Monday night.
SHARKS at AVALANCHE
Take: SHARKS 1P +100
I’m basing this simply on the fact that San Jose has been the considerably better team out of the first period starting gate in this series. The Avalanche figure to be stronger later at home in that altitude but early on I would favor the visiting side tonight.
