Cokin’s Corner, Saturday 12/29/18

This will be one of my quick blogs, with just the Friday recap and an opinion on one of the Saturday bowl games.

My Friday worked out okay, although I have to admit I wish I hadn’t talked myself out of playing Auburn. At least I wasn’t on the other side. I did garner wins with Syracuse and Iowa State, so 2–0 on the bowls. Loser in college hoops with IUPUI, but still 5-1 on the last six daily best bets, and I’m staying with that formula today despite the fairly deep schedule.

Get all my plays all the way through the Super Bowl with the current special available at the Cokin’s Picks menu to the right of the page. Also feel free to email me at cokin@cox.net if you’ve got questions about how the service works.

Syracuse came through as Friday’s free play. That was a service selection. This one is an added opinion as I have just one actual bowl play today and that’s for my subscribers or for those purchasing online at any of the sites that promote me.

FLORIDA VS. MICHIGAN

Take: FLORIDA +6

I am giving the intangibles edge to the Gators here. Michigan won’t have its full complement of players, and I have to question the motivational aspect for the Wolverines. This is not the bowl they anticipated being involved in and they’re a prime suspect to be flat in more of a minor bowl contest.

The reason it’s not making my card is that while I clearly favor Florida on the variables, the data still points to Michigan. In other words, if the right version of the Wolverines shows up, they’re like to head back to Ann Arbor with a win.

But when push comes to shove and I have conflicts on these lesser bowls, I’ll generally side with the underdog if I perceive them to have a mental advantage. That being the case here, my call is on the Gators plus the points.
