Cokin’s Corner, Sunday 5/6/18

  • May 5, 2018

The usual weekend condensed blog, with Saturday’s results and Sunday’s free play. I lost my Derby play on My Boy Jack. Any win bet other than Justify was a bad choice, as there was absolutely no doubt as to the best horse in that field. My guess is that we will get a small Preakness field, as owners might justifiably feel they’re simply racing to finish second at best. I made three small NBA plays and am thankful they were each small plays. The baseball continues to be outstanding, with a 3-1 Saturday and net profits are already better than 16 units, with almost all plays being a flat one unit.

Here’s the Sunday free opinion.

ORIOLES (Cobb) at ATHLETICS (Triggs)

Take: OVER 9 -115

Oakland is a terrific pitcher’s park at night, but it’s a different story in day games. The ball carries during the day and the Sunday weather forecast says the wind will be blowing out. Alex Cobb finally had a decent start last tine out for the woeful Orioles. But the veteran righty has been getting ripped for the most part and he’s still missing very few bats. Andrew Triggs has been passable for the A’s, but I don’t look at him as a shutdown type and even the feeble Birds should be able to push a few runs across the plate in this series finale. I’d look for Baltimore-Oakland to be high scoring and would side with the Over in this game.
