Cokin’s Corner, Sunday 7/1/18

  • June 30, 2018

Weekend blog mode continues. I’m on three games for Sunday as of now and will pst one of them here as the daily free play. Brand new month gets underway, and that’s more than play with me. My season to date numbers are still pretty good, but June was a dreary exercise that resulted in a net loss following two excellent months to start the season. I’ll have a July Special on the service available on Monday. I have to still price it out as it’s a short month with the All-Star break just around the bend.

The Saturday free play was a pretty crazy loser. You won’t see many teams blow two separate three-runs leads (3-0 and 7-4) on a five-inning bet, but that’s precisely what the Twins did in an eventual loss to the Cubs. I honestly knew I might blow the wager as soon as Addison Reed showed up to pitch the bottom of the fifth for the Twins and sure enough, he got tagged. On to Sunday’s comp.

BRAVES (Foltynewicz( at CARDINALS (Gant)

Take: BRAVES +100

Mike Foltynewicz has now reached the point where he’s even putting up decent results when he doesn’t have his command. Absolutely one of the true breakout guys this season. John Gant is off a seven inning shutout effort for the Redbirds, but it was misleading as he issued five walks along the way. He benefitted from a ridiculous .059 BABIP in that game. Gant looks like a good bounce candidate here. Bullpens are roughly even, and actually so are the offenses, but the Atlanta attack is better right now. Braves will be a popular choice here and might well go off the chalk, but at even money I’m on the Atlanta side.
