Cokin’s Corner, Thursday 2/24/19

Sometimes you’re just not meant to win. A good example of how that phrase can ring true took place here in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

If you just watched the flow of the game and didn’t know the score, you’d have to think the Vegas Golden Knights were soundly defeating the Nashville Predators. As one who watches every Knights game, this was a Grade A performance by the local team.

But at the end of 60 minutes the scoreboard showed a 2-1 final with the Predators skating away with the coveted two points. Long story short, this particular game displayed how a blazing hot goalie can dictate the result virtually on his own. Juuse Saros was nothing short of amazing, stopping all but one of the 48 shots on goal he faced. And yes, in case you were wondering, that established a career single game high for Saros.

The Golden Knights will now head into the All-Star break saddled with two straight home losses, so maybe the vacation is coming at a perfect time. The back to back losses to the Wild and Predators were very frustrating and those are the type of gut punch defeats that can lead to a losing streak. Instead, the Knights can head into this rest period knowing they played more than well enough to win. That hopefully leads to a surge out of the break!

I’m not exactly thrilled to be forced to sidelines in the NHL for a handful of days. The pucks have been very kind to me this season and I notched another winner last night as my play on the Blues was very easy. The college baskets went backward off the 2-0 Tuesday with an 0-2 Wednesday and I was really never in either game.

I’ve got just one game set for Thursday and I’ll just go ahead and post it here as the daily free play.

There’s a very nice generic angle that applies to this game. I won’t reveal precisely what it is, other than to say it involves road dogs seeking to avenge a same season home loss. You’re on your own from there as far as the parameters required. But the angle has been a really steady winner going back many years and I’ll play it here with the Golden Hurricane.
