Cokin’s Corner, Thursday 2/28/19

I did a podcast yesterday where the discussion was regarding the Wednesday evening game between A-10 rivals St. Joseph’s and Fordham. I happened to suggest the visiting Hawks would get the win and cover, which they did. But that was the not the focal point of the conversation.

Long story short, it’s time for Fordham to get out of the Atlantic 10. The Rams basically have no chance to compete in a high mid-major league. I don’t mean just this season, I mean any season. There are simply too many variables working against them.

Fordham plays its basketball in a small gym that is nearly 100 years old. They aren’t equipped to play at an even level with any of the other programs in what is a very good league. The Rams have had one winning season in the last dozen years. That’s not going to change.

To me, the only right move is to pull up stakes and make the move to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The MAAC is a far better fit for Fordham in every regard. I absolutely feel they could compete in that league, and the geographical advantages are really obvious.

I don’t know whether it’s a matter of false pride or delusional thinking that keeps Fordham in a conference where they cannot compete. It’s time for the Rams to move on and become part of a conference that’s much better suited to their reality.

Okay result on Wednesday, which is a switch. I’ve had a really rough go this month with the baskets, no way to sugarcoat things. Hopefully, this signals the turnaround, but I’m hardly doing backflips off one decent evening.

There does appear to be some very playable stuff on the Thursday hoop slate, but I’m waiting till the morning to finalize my card.

How ’bout those Blue Jays! Toronto won as the Wednesday free play. Back to the buckets for a Thursday opinion. I won’t go into all the details on this one, but let’s just say these two teams are not on the best of terms and I am looking the dog as the live side here.
