Cokin’s Corner, Thursday 3/21/19
The real deal gets rolling on Thursday, with 16 NCAA Tournament battles and a full day of what should be incredible action. I’ll be involved with plenty of games, so lots of excitement in store on a personal level.
Quick Wednesday recap. I split two hoops but wisely went with only a first period play on the ice, and won that as the Capitals skated to a 1-0 lead in the opening session. Tampa Bay eventually won the game in overtime, despite Washington registering an amazing 58 shots on goal. But my decision to only wager on the first period turned out to be the right one.
I’ve got some involvement in five NCAA games, and here’s one of them that I’ll use as today’s free play.
769 SETON HALL vs. 770 WOFFORD
Take: WOFFORD -2.5
Let’s get rid of the Cinderella label as far as it’s being applied to Wofford. This Terriers squad is legit. They’re a very complete team and Wofford is expertly coached. I believe the key to this game is the Terriers game planning to at least contain Myles Powell. No one is shutting down Seton Hall’s superstar. But if the Terriers are able to force the Pirates to rely on their other personnel to become huge contributors, I’m not sure the arsenal is there for the Hall. My big concern is nerves. Wofford is the favorite here and with that role comes some level of pressure. But while the SoCon tournament is obviously not quite the same, I really like the way Wofford handled the heat in that event. I’m also repeating something I’ve been saying for most of the season, which is that i do not see this year’s Big East being at its usual level. The league has no bad teams, but I also don’t believe there’s a real powerhouse in the league this year. This is very likely going to be a pretty competitive game, but I have the Terriers winning by a small handful and feel there’s some decent value with the number where it is. Wofford minus the small spot for my free play.
