Cokin’s Corner, Thursday 3/28/19
Funny how things just work out so well sometimes. I’m a big Opening Day guy, love the prospect of watching baseball all day long. So it’s one of those days where I’d rather be able to camp out in my favorite old chair and not have to do the radio show.
Enter UNLV. There will be a press conference at 2PM to officially welcome the new head basketball coach (more on that tomorrow). Since the station that carries our The Las Vegas Sportsline is ESPN Las Vegas, and that is also home for Runnin’ Rebel basketball, we’re off the air so the presser can be broadcast live.
Result is a day off from radio for me and and uninterrupted MLB viewing all day long. Okay, thanks UNLV!
Made two mistakes on Wednesday. I wasn’t confident enough to go ahead with the Lipscomb free opinion as a service play, and they ended up with the outright dog win. The one play I did use was the Golden Knights and they ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision at Colorado. So following a huge four-day run, I gave back 1.25 units on the day.
I’m currently on three smaller baseball plays and three NCAA Sweet 16 selections for Thursday. Here’s one of the basketball calls with a brief analysis.
OREGON vs. VIRGINIA
Take: VIRGINIA -8.5
Oregon is the best storyline in this tournament but I think the Ducks will go home here. Virginia looked comfortable in beating Oklahoma. It wasn’t a blowout but there was never any point in the game where it looked like the Sooners could make a big run and steal an upset. I just don’t know how much the Oregon adrenaline matters here and I’m not sure their offense will find enough good looks to hang in against this Cavaliers defense. The Ducks have lots of support from the Cinderella-loving betting public but I expect reality to be in place here and that should mean a fairly convincing win and cover by Virginia.
