Cokin’s Corner, Thursday 4/11/19
A wild start to the Stanley Cup playoffs with a shocking collapse by the Tampa Bay Lightning the headliner. Four of the five games were thrillers, with the only dud coming in the Golden Knights-Sharks matchup. The Knights were throughly awful for nearly the entire game in what turned out to be an easy win for San Jose.
I lost a play on the Winnipeg Jets, as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the surging Blues. The Jets were the better team for two periods and the early stages of the third period, But once the Blues tied it up 1-1, they really took over in a big way and ended up pulling out the win. The Jets are going to have to find a way to solve this scorching hot rookie goalie, Jordan Binnington, and he might well be in their heads after an amazing playoff debut last night.
I’m on three MLB games this evening, and here’s one of that trio that I’ll utilize as today’s free play.
PADRES (Avila) at DIAMONDBACKS (Godley)
Take: PADRES +105
San Diego sends out another one of their prospects tonight as Pedro Avila makes his debut. He’s an okay prospect who was projected as a back of the rotation type, but it looks as though his stock has been rising with improved command of his fastball. Avila has a very good curve and that’s always a good thing against hitters who have no book on him. Zack Godley was okay last start against Boston, but awful in his effort against the Dodgers. Control is the key for Godley and he hasn’t had much of it thus far. Godley does not usually go deep into games and the Snakes bullpen got taxed last night. The Padres really have the look of a better team than they’ve been for quite some time and I think they’re the better team here. I’ll go ahead and take my shot with the Friars tonight.
