Cokin’s Corner, Thursday 8/30/18

Tonight’s the night. There were a pair of  college games to kick off the new season over the weekend, but for all intents and purposes, this is where the action really begins. Loads of intriguing matchups right out of the gate!

As of now, I have two games tonight, one on Friday, and two more on Saturday. I expect to add one or two more pieces before I close out this week’s capping. To get all my plays, simply choose one of the available options at the “Cokin’s Picks” menu to the right of the page. For more detailed info on how my service works, email me directly at

Here’s a play that is not yet on the Saturday card, but is a definite consideration.

I think it’s fair to offer that when one thinks about high powered college football offenses, neither Kent State nor Illinois comes immediately to mind. That might still be the case again this season. But it won’t be for lack of effort from these two programs.

There are going to be a load of plays on this Saturday game. The Golden Flashes have a new coach who is intent on opening up the offense via the fast break. Illinois is also going to try to go up tempo.

I’m not sure how much success either of these teams will have against better opposition. But in this particular game, we’ve got two defenses that look to be mediocre and two offenses that will be trying to play at warp speed. That should add up to lots of scoring chances and the O/U on this game looks low to me. It”s not as low as it was as the Over money has been showing on this matchup. But I still see a game that has a good chance to get into the 60’s. Opinion on Kent State and Illinois to exceed the posted number.
