Cokin’s Corner, Wednesday 5/31/17
So here’s my take on the basebrawl between the Nationals and Giants featuring Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland.
I don’t care who was right or wrong. I’m also sans opinion on the suspensions handed out.
I absolutely do NOT think this is the worst thing ever and that something must be done immediately. The faux outrage over the incident cracks me up. It reminds me of the bit in “Blazing Saddles” where one of the politicians gets admonished for not saying “harrumph”.
Anytime baseball gets the front page, as long as it’s not for a positive PED test, I’m pretty happy. As for Harper and Strickland, I like the emotion. Yeah, I know, the throwing at hitters isn’t cool, but the fact this became the hot water cooler topic for at least one day is actually okay with me.
0-1-1 on Tuesday, which could have easily been 0-2. Thanks to Asdrubal Cabrera for somehow misplaying a routine pop up and gifting me two needed runs in the Brewers-Mets game. Heading to the finish line for the month of May, very few complaints. The task now is make sure June works out just as well at a minimum.
Today is the final day to grab a full month with the money back guarantee. Email me for all the details at email@example.com. I’ll have the June offer in tomorrow’s blog.
No beefs here with the push on the Tuesday free play. Today’s comp is on way I’d call a value underdog on the diamond.
DODGERS at CARDINALS (Ryu/Martinez)
Take: DODGERS +120
There isn’t any question St. Louis has the pitching edge here with Carlos Martinez on the mound against the shopworn Hyun-Jin Ryu. The Dodgers lefty is now a soft tosser and is dependent on location to survive.
But he is a southpaw and that remains a problem for the Redbirds. Martinez is outstanding but he’s facing a very good offense vs. righties and the Dodgers have a major edge with the bats in this game.
Then there’s the enormous run differential, which favors the Dodgers by a wide margin. If this game was in the pick ’em range, I’d leave it be. But I just can’t justify the Cardinals being favored by this much. That means it’s a value dog grab here and I will be on the Dodgers to nail down another win.
